I would be happy to, if anyone can tell me how to arrange for events
to be stalled in the queue in the manner described by Quincey's
thought experiment.

As things stand, that description explains the issue very well, and I
don't think anyone will be bamboozled by a mere "proof by assertion"
to the contrary, so let's just leave it at that.
