Re: Best gamut ink for fine art giclee

keep one thing in mind, though, lee-

the shadow density of the ultrachrome inks is less than stellar, at least with photo black. as an example, With Best ColorProof, using Epson's SemiMatte Proofong stock, or Best's version of the same, i've stuggled to get the shadow dark enough to accurately proof an offset shadow point, let alone the stuff that *i* need to proof. i've heard people claim that matte black is better on certain medias, but i haven't yet seen an ink/media combo that backs up that claim in our shop.

everyone is always quick to jump on the epson bandwagon around here, and overall i'm happy with the 7600 and 10600 that i use here- color is stable, image is great, etc. but to me, the shadow is a big glaring issue - especially in a proofing system- which few seem to acknowledge in their wholehearted recommendations of the system.

this may be less of an issue on fine art substrates, i don't know. and, as was mentioned before, it come down to the kind of imagery you'll be producing, and what your reproduction priorities are.

What is the best ink for giclee?

I'm interested in an Epson but how is thier pigmented ink?

The HP UV is not a very good gamut.

Is the epson better?

Hi Lee,

I have not done any UV HP but I am really impressed with the Epson
Ultrachrome inks. Though I don't have specific number to back that
impression up, I just got an Epson 4000 UC and, so far, I have the
impression that the gamut is huge.
