Re: Distiller 7 and PDF X1a

Hi

Been playing with Acrobat 7 pro, lots of new features we have all read
about, a few bugs, one in output preview that incorrectly reports the tint
values of special colour by around 20%, and a little trap to watch for when
making PDF X1a files.

The default output intent is SWOP for PDF X1a, so I need to change to an ISO
printing condition, no problem.

Then I send a file I know has a RGB image to test the PDF X1a files. It
passes! So I then check the 'Color' tab within the Setting menu. There is
now a 'Convert all colors to CMYK' command. This is the default setting in
PDF X1a settings in distiller 7. A good feature? Yes, but it also activates
the normal working space colour setup for Grey, RGB and CMYK.

Therefore if I do not alter the Acrobat working spaces to match my input,
i.e. a ISO coated PDF X1a will have an SWOP profile with an ISO output
intent, or any combination you can think!

Can see lots of good uses for this tool, a late binding colour managed PDF
workflow, and lots of traps for the unwary.

Regards

Paul Sherfield
