Hi Richard,

Same question as ever. Some people here will argue that more ambient light
is better than less ambient light and I'm known on this List to respect
everyone's opinion. Personnally, I don't advocate working in a cave but I
don't find 32 to 64 Lux not that uncomfortable to work under, for critical
color work.  Because I paid through the teeth for my monitor, I like to set
it at a relatively low level, 100 to 120 Cd/m2, so that it will not start to
fade on me prmaturely. But I recognize that 160 cd/m2 is a popular figure,
these days, in screen to proof matching, when the proof is viewed under the
light of a desktop viewing booth, such as JUST-Normlicht's Color
Communicator 2. For further technical reference, I did found useful
information regarding ambient lighting setup on Ugra web site. Look for the
section on DACT.
