Re: DTP70 - 2 step or not 2 step?

Hi Scott, I read through Mark Levine's posts a few months ago about the nature of MonacoPROFILER's linearization process. I now linearize with MP even if I've linearized in-RIP. Love the results.

I don't do it unless I have to - I keep a database of what devices benefit from it and which don't. In a few situations the reults are acutally worse when it is used, so don't do it unless it makes sense to. If you've achieved excellent linearity in-RIP then I would perform a single step profile, espicially for inkjet. Sounds like you've done it both ways and like the results with linearization. Cool - you are among a very small minority of people who do so :-]

BTW, I hate to call it linearization since it doesn't directly linearize the printer prior to profiling. I like "device customized profile target generation" but I'm open to other, shorter ideas...

I don't remember anything about UV though.
What is the reasoning behind always filtering out the UV energy when using the lin step in Monaco?

They don't say anything about it but I noticed from experience (testing it both ways) that the results are best with UVex measurements, even on some papers without OBs. I suspect MP is using a chroma based linearization method like older versions of ColorBurst (which use the same XRite tech) for which UVex is strongly encouraged, and for good reason.
