It's possible to get a hood as an accessory with the NECs, whereas with other displays it's something you get with certain model #'s. As for the software, if you get an -SV model NEC it comes with software and hardware. If you get a non-SV it doesn't. You can then get the software, or software+hardware as an add-on to one of the non-SV units (and basically turn it into an SV). That way you're paying for what you need. It's a bit more complex to figure out the combinations but the bottom line is that you have more options.
