The current 20" inch iMac uses a TN-Panel, while the 24" uses an IPS
panel. TN-panels are crap IMO and I would no one advise to buy a
TN-panel display. IPS panels have the best viewing angle in regards to
color and are considered to be superior, while PVA panels have a
viewing angle for color which is "o.k." and depending on the situation
might be sufficient, although I personally would not consider a
PVA/MVA panel today.
