I think there actually is a trade off between minimum safe integration time (for the correct measurement) and energy (heat) generated. The EyeOne Pro gets warm and then gets noisy. So there becomes a point of diminishing returns for accuracy.
I don't thing there's any technical reason a Spectrophotometer should be inferior in the shadow detail, it probably comes down to how the software drives it (integration time on dark readings, fixed timing or adaptive), and the time you're prepared to wait to get a result.
