You have a certain knack with marketing spin yourself. 

With due respect to ColorVision's marketing over the years, I think it has 
been features and pricepoint that have caused the majority of display 
calibrators sold to be Spyders. And the Spyder3 offers something well above your 
"technically mediocre" description as well. You might consider buying one, and 
finding out.
