MIDI Monitor comes with the source code available. I'd look at how he does
things and figure out what about it differs from the way that you do things.

Actually, now that you mention the details of the situation, I have seen
very very similar behavior, where the beginning of a sysex dump is good but
the tail end is bad and yet the size is correct. It happened when I was
using MIDI Patchbay with more than 8 ports. I did notify Patchbay's author
Pete (who is on this list) and I seem to recall that he fixed it. This was
causing trouble even when doing routing using virtual ports only, so I think
it was unrelated to the MIDISport.

If you figure it out, please post a follow-up describing what the issue was.
