I'm exploring a race condition where the system sets the hostname
incorrectly because spanning tree has not let go of the port. I
realize we could probably enable portfast, but that is a solution
that is intrusive to existing IT infrastructures, so I'd rather find
something that doesn't require a config change on the switch. I also
realize I can set the hostname statically. I'd like to not do that,
in order to keep the box as close to an out-of-box config as feasible.
I've set the verbose flag to yes in /S/L/SystemConfiguration/
IPConfiguration.bundle/Resources/IPConfiguration.xml and made syslog
a little more verbose. That output is below.
I've also tried modifying the following keys in the above file (if
anyone knows where I can get a clear definition of what these keys
do, please let me know). They sounded hopeful:
I'm interested in finding whether anyone has found a solution to this
problem. It did not occur in Panther. There needs to be a key we can
use to turn off this fascination with booting fast. It's fine for mom
and pop but it has continually hurt IT-centric markets.
