In my opinion the screen(1) program would be worth a first try. You
can install it via fink.
Ahh, but that just captures the text.
As I suspected, there's no easy way to grab the pixels of the text
console.

You could probably modify Quinn's FireStarter demo from MacHack to
grab the screen buffer rather than overwriting it, but that would be
stretching the definition of 'easy'.
