I think you've misunderstood the reason for the question.

My actual goal is to have a screenshot of "the text console", to put in a
book.

It is not to decide what the best way to run a desktop is.

Uh-huh.  Well, that brings up the obvious question:  Is the console font in
Darwin the same as any standard X bitmap font?
