TH_STATE_UNINTERRUPTIBLE

I have one computer (dual G4) that exhibits some very strange behavior.
Something will happen and any process which accesses 2 of my 4 hard drives
will freeze. When this happens, the processes are unkillable and ps shows
'U' for their state.

It seems that these processes have the state TH_STATE_UNINTERRUPTIBLE.
Once this starts, I can cause any process that reads the disk to become
stuck, simply by reading whichever of the two drives caused it this time.

At first, I thought that it was a problem with my IDE card since it would
only happen with the drives connected to the card (I could change the
drives around and it'd still only be the ones connected to the card). I
bought two firewire enclosures and put two of the drives in there. I still
get the same behavior.

Since this happens with any of my drives, I'm tempted to think that it is
not an issue with the drives. Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

I'm currently not in the same state as the G4 so I can't test the drives
with my G5 to see if it exhibits the same behavior, but I will do that
when I get back.
