USB driver vendor id/product id list?

Hi,

I recently went out looking for a driver for my USB device, a USB- RS232 adaptor, since
MacOS X didn't support it out of the box. Using the vendor id and product id (0x2303 and
0x067b) as keyword searches I was able to find Mac compatible drivers for it. This is
not the first time I have had to do something similar. In another scenario I actually
looked at the chip-set to find a suitable driver.

What struck me in this process is that there does not seem to be directory of vendor id
and product id that is provided by MacOS X. This is a shame since some products that
don't advertise themselves as being Mac compatible, are if you know what you should be
checking for.

Would it be feasible a) for Apple to compile a list, or at least provide one where people
could add entries and b) for a tool to be provide to MacOS X to actually look up this
information.

Andre
