Well then you can just leave the dmg as a dmg and just mount it with
hdid (etc) as well too. That is you don't have to expand the dmg's
onto disk.
... but you can't boot from a mounted .dmg ...
You can just install the packages from the mounted dmg. They're in
System/Installation/Packages.
No. Do Not Do That. It will Not work correctly.
The latest OS Install packages are designed to use features in the
latest Installer. If you try to install them using a version of the
Installer older than they are, they may fail in subtle ways.
