Writing a new filesystem driver

First off, I'm new to the list, so hello. :)

Now, my overall project is to create a driver/plugin that is able to read and understand the filesystem contained on an Xbox game disc, which is a regular DVD media with a non-standard filesystem (in addition to the regular DVD stuff, which is a UFS filesystem, that allows it to put up a "Please put this disc in your Xbox to play" image when put in a regular DVD player/computer).

As I understand it, I need to create a new filesystem driver that can read and understand the filesystem on the disc, like the ones in /System/Library/Filesystems/. Unfortunately, I've been completely unable to locate any information on writing such a driver.

Also, it's my understanding that the program automount is responsible for mounting the filesystems on a storage device. Since right now an Xbox game disc is treated like it was a regular DVD, I'm guessing that I'll need to have some way of making automount not load the UFS filesystem, but mine instead. I'm rather clueless about where to begin here, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If this is the wrong list to be asking this type of question on, I'd also appreciate it if I could be pointed to one that would be more appropriate.

Thanks in advance,

Dylan Barrie
