If mbufs still come out of low memory, then it should be
safe.  Its a fancy wrapper for mcltopaddr.

Sounds OK then.

question. I think it depends on how you allocate your Rx/Tx ring  
buffers and such.

In my ethernet drivers, my other allocations are made with
IOMallocContiguous (with allocations of a page or less).  Since that
gives back a 32-bit dma address, I assume that must still be safe.

It is (and uses the aforementioned low memory pool). It would be best to allocate using IOBufferMemoryDescriptor::inTaskWithPhysicalMask() if you can though...
