What is a CACHE_HIT event in fs_usage?

I'm using the "fs_usage" utility to help me optimize my application's I/O calls, and I see a lot of events labeled "CACHE_HIT". Could someone explain what these are? (VM paging? File System caching?)

Sorry about the novice question, but I can't seem to figure it out from the man page, and most of the Google hits I find describe how to filter these lines out (which is fine, but the anal engineer in me wants to know why... ;-)

   TIA

   - Richard
