Re: Thanks

No, that will not work. Although the underlying Darwin OS is available for both Mac and PC computers, the additional parts that comprise Mac OS X would not function.

I admit there's more to it than this and I don't really know all the intricacies, but I'd say it's sort of like having Linux on both PC and Mac. Although Linux might be available for both computer types, if a Linux distributor integrated extra software into a PC version and did not release the source code, then you could not just transfer those files over to a Mac Linux computer and expect it to work.

As I understand it, a PC port would be more complicated than a re-compile, but that's probably the most basic problem for attempting what you describe the software is compiled for PPC and you want to run it on Intel. It doesn't matter that they both have Darwin if the software isn't made for the architecture you want to run it on.

Hope I didn't make myself look too stupid...

Well, there's a next question :^). Let's suppose my Darwin for
x86 boots and suppose I have an OS X CD. Will OS X run in my x86?
Will installation see that I have already Darwin and not overwrite
it? I am very interested in running OS X in my PC's :^).
