Mac OS X is a commercial product, and yes, you have to buy it. I don't know why that's bad news. Apple's stockholders certainly appreciate it.

However, you can download the 'core' OS for Mac OS X, which is called Darwin, and this is one of the lists on which to discuss issues pertaining to Darwin. I'll suggest you go back to the web site where you signed up and read a little more, to get a feel for what we're doing here, and how Darwin fits into Mac OS X.

Or, you can keep working with FreeBSD.
