You may download Darwin, the Core OS of Mac OS X, however if you want the
Mac OS X GUI (Windowing environment) then you must buy it... or find a
friend that has it ;-)

If you are tossing up purchasing OS X or keeping FreeBSD, then know that
your best option is probably to use Darwin. Darwin will give you
basically your FreeBSD, but will allow you to be using the core of Mac OS
X. You are free to download XFree86 and a window manager for your gui.

P.S. It's only $99 USD for Mac OS X, so it isn't that bad even if you
choose to buy it. Plus you get all the developer tools with the Mac OS X
purchase, so all-in-all, it is a great deal.
