Synaptics Trackpad driver

I saw this mentioned over at Macintouch and thought it might be relevant to many readers of this list...

Luke Pacholski is disappointed that the trackpad on the TiBook doesn't have any of the nifty software features that other notebooks have. This software is made by Synaptics, which manufactures almost every OEM trackpad out there. (My Pismo has a Synaptics touchpad - took it apart a few weeks ago and the IC on the trackpad had the Synaptics logo on it.) Anyhow, Synaptics has made most of the APIs for the touchpad public, and there are Linux drivers available - so all it needs is someone willing to write a driver for OS X or 9, and Mac users would probably have the same functionality.

There are a few things that I'm surprised Apple has still not addressed with the latest PowerBooks:

- keyboard: we're still stuck with half-height arrow keys and no dedicated Page Up/Page Down/etc keys. Sony Vaio laptops have both full-sized arrow keys and dedicated PgUp/PgDown/etc keys.

- trackpad: one feature I'm still waiting for (and this might be possible through a software upgrade of some sort) is added functionality for the trackpad. Vaio laptops (once again) have a nifty included utility that adds some neat features to the trackpad. For instance, moving your finger up or down along the far right side of the trackpad acts like a mouse wheel. Moving back and forth across the top navigates forward and backward in web browsers. If Apple won't do this, what about a third-party utility?
