Re: NetInfo

NetInfo Manager _looks_ intuitive, but I am STILL trying to figure out how to persuade "local" that it is "." and not "/"

In the good old days, NetInfo was capable of bootstrapping itself. These days, there's some garbage in some system preferences files, without which NetInfo won't work properly. This data is written when you use Directory Access.app to configure NetInfo. Just yet another example how Apple butchered NetInfo because the people who inherited it didn't know how it was supposed to work, or something like that.

Same thing, the myth that the second level NetInfo domain needs to be called "network" is just that, a myth. The second level was NEVER called network in any of my setups, it was a default name, just like "untitled" for a new document, that a lot of people happened to just let be.

Imagine if you have a tree like NetInfo structure with three or more levels. You'd have an utter mess if clone servers could not keep one "network" domain distinguished from another "network" domain.
