That assuredly won't work; there are too many moving parts to track.
You pretty much have to use 'ncutil', although you might be able to
get away with 'scutil' if you are determined.

Perhaps. Since you didn't give us anything to go on, we will find it
hard to diagnose the problems you are seeing.
