Input set to 44100 Hz for input (was already at that setting) so
this doesn't seem to be the solution... Funny how output is not
supported though...

If this is what is happening on your system, you can use the
"Audio MIDI Setup" application to reset the sampling rate to 44100
Hz. Audio MIDI Setup should be in your Applications/Utilities
folder.
