Re: [Fed-Talk] Apple [may not open] OS X Kernel for Intel

Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] Apple [may not open] OS X Kernel for Intel
The discussion started out that way but one tends to focus on the speculation when discussing this topic. This has all been speculation but I imagine the reasoning isn’t too far from the truth and it did spawn some good points. Actions speak louder then words so time will tell what actually happens to the x86 kernel sources.

Not that the problem can be solved but if anyone else has input on dealing with the “closed source = high security” discussion we had earlier in this thread please share. The same day I wrote the email discussing I got involved in another discussion about that subject because most of the code in the project I work is is already or in the process of being open sourced.

Hi all,

Just to be clear, Tom Yager was *speculating* about why we have -- so far -- not released the source code of the kernel for Intel-based Macintoshes.  We continue to release *all* the Darwin sources for our PowerPC systems, and so far has released all the non-kernel Darwin sources for Intel.

Nothing has been announced, so he (and everyone else) certainly has the right to speculate.  But please don't confuse "speculation" with "fact."
