Ben, Since you are making specific reference to Mac OS X 10.5.2, but have not clarified what you mean by "working" I will have to believe that what you really mean is you are having specific issues with authenticating to PKI protected websites. This is not an issue with the Smart Cards Services, but rather with the use of identities (e.g. you would have the same issue if your identity was in a file-based Keychain as well). You will find in the archives a detailed message specifically addressing this scenario and what to do about it.
