It's possible to develop heavy-duty enterprise applications right now on Mac OS X using WebObjects 5. WebObjects 5 isn't a J2EE environment though -- it's better.

The WebObjects Framework is the Right Way to build web applications; it blows away JSP or servlets. And for database connectivity nothing can match the Enterprise Objects Framework (part of WebObjects). The closest thing to it is TopLink, but that's like saying the closest thing to a Macintosh is Microsoft Windows...

Try it. You'll like it.

PS - If you want a great relational database that runs on Mac OS X and works very well with WebObjects and the Enterprise Objects Framework, check out FrontBase <http://www.frontbase.com/>.
