Menu Item Accelerators

I'm developing a pure Java application in which I'm using menu item accelerators such as Control-N for "New Document", since (as far as I know) on platforms other than the Mac, "Control" is the modifier usually used rather than "Command". I had expected the Aqua look and feel to automatically convert the "Control"s to "Command"s, but this doesn't seem to be happening. Is this a fault with the Aqua look and feel, or should I be doing something to perform the conversion from "Control"s to "Command"s, and if so, what?
