Except when it's too late.

Using code to set a property may have no effect, if the element that refers
to the property has already read the property. One example is the
"java.library.path" property. If you change it in your program, it will
have no effect, because the underlying code that uses it will already have
read and parsed it by the time main() is executed. Curiously, the
"file.encoding" property can also be this way, since it's used to select an
encoder/decoder pair of classes, which are then unreplaceable singletons
thereafter.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "...about.name" property was the same way,
and had to be set before main() gets control. I could be wrong, though, so
it's worth experimenting with.
