And yes, it is all too easy to build crappy distros and brain-dead installers using ANY tool. Testing the actual distro on a virgin system configuration is just as important as testing the program itself. If users have to struggle to get in the door, it takes the shine off even the most sumptuously furnished interior.

The installer built by IA for the JGL folks does not install on MacOS X. This is a real pain, because what they are distributing is just a single directory with some nested directories and jar files. One bloody zip/tgz file would be all they need. Instead, it whines about /bin/java not being a proper executable.

I have seen this error with a _large_ number of installers build using IA, so I must assume it is an easy mistake to make with the tool - sort of like encoding DOS path names in a pure java app that has only been tested there.

I have been pushing my clients towards disk images for MacOS X only installs, and WebStart for multi-platform pure java, with the needed jars in a tgz file as an alternative. It misses some of the neat jdk install features of IA, but at least my Mac, Win, and Lin clients can all get at the needed code.
