Re: problems with paint(Graphics g) in 10.2

Well Greg, you said it all: "you shouldn't have to do this". My group at a major government lab works on a small but growing suite of scientific visualization and data management tools for earth scientists. Working around the XOR bug in all these tools would not be trivial and would require a fair amount of redesign. The funds just don't exists to make these changes to accomodate what many in the community see as a marginal scientific platform. It's been so frustrating for me because I'm trying to change the perception of the Mac platform in the marine science community but I keep hitting JVM limitations/bugs. Mac OS X is starting to get the UNIX (and Windows) crowd interested in the Mac again but they need domain-specifc tools as well to justify making the platform leap. You are right we have choices: 1) support Mac users or 2) not support the Mac. Apple's just not making it very easy for us to choose #1. BTW, we're doing some cool stuff with VisAD that requires Java3D. Since Java3D is a no show on the Mac that's just one more reason for Java developers to make choice #2.

I fully realize that "you shouldn't have to do this". But if you are
stumbling over a bug that's not getting fixed, your only choices are:
1) avoid it with a workaround,
2) eliminate it with your own remedy,
3) complain about it while doing nothing.

These choices are true for all bugs, in all software. As a developer, you
at least have the power to make a development decision (create a remedy or
workaround), rather than just act as a consumer and only make a purchasing
decision.
