Screen Size Question

[Sorry if I posted this twice. Having trouble with email today.]

What is the proper (cross-platform safe) way to get the *available* screen size, for creating a full-screen window? (Alternately, a method that returns the menubar height would also suffice.)

The Toolkit method getScreenSize() returns the screen dimensions, which on the Mac makes the Frame to tall, due to the menu bar. My preference would be a Java method or system property (neither of which I can find), but I would be willing to make a JDirect or JNI call if someone can point me in the right direction for doing this.
