>...trying to find information on learning Java on Mac OS-X. ... something (book, websites, articles, etc...) that I can use with a beginning Java programming book to help me make the examples in the books work on Mac OS-X .
Take a look at BlueJ project at Monash University in Australia.
ftp://ftp.bluej.org/pub/bluej/BlueJ-122.sit actual software, about 750KB, free
http://www.bluej.org/ home page
http://www.bluej.org/download/install.html installation instructions
Do have to warn you that while BlueJ downloaded, seemed to start up, accepted code, and compiled just fine, I had trouble getting anything to run. (On the other hand, I barely read any of the instructions...)
