Second newbie attempt to get help with applet child window problems under Jaguar.

This is a problem that others must run into all the time, but I can't find any
mention of it in the archives. I have a new iMac running Jaguar with no
updates to the VM. I am trying to get an applet that works perfectly on PCs to
work on the iMac. I create a parent window using

class TestFrame extends Frame
implements WindowListener

When I launch the applet either locally or from a remote server there is no
problem with the parent window. If I click on View/Java messages on the
Internet Explorer menu bar, the Java console window appears briefly, then
disappears behind the parent applet window. Nothing will cause it to stay put
on top of the parent window. The same thing happens with any child window that
the applet creates. The only way to read a child window is to minimize the
applet parent window to the dock so that you can read what is under it. Using
toFront() on a child window doesn't help.
If anyone knows what's happening here, I would be most grateful. If not, I
guess I have an an iMac for sale.
Many thanks in anticipation, and if you are interested in seeing the problem
on your machine, point your OS X browser to
