Quicktime for Java

I'm developing a audio capture tool (hopefully) in java, targeting both Mac
OS X and Win32 platforms. I understand the Java Sound API is not supported
on OS X, and I've heard that Quicktime for Java provides audio capture
capability. My question is, is the audio capture capability accesible with
the just the free player installed, or would users need to purchase the
professional edition? Furthermore, has anyone heard if and when capture
with JavaSound will be supported?
