Java 1.3: 10.1 vs. Jaguar

David,

Thanks for your feedback, which I guess was sent off the list.
Being able to make .exe files in an easy way sounds like a real
plus--I won't tell you how I'm doing it now, but it's a real
kludge. I tried JBuilder for Windows for a while but wasn't happy
with it. Based on your recommendation I'll give CodeWarrior a try.

I am in academia and although I code mainly in OS 9.1 I use Java 1.3 on OSX to support Bioinformatics students. I upgraded to Jaguar and have had no problems...

...but I use CodeWarrior as my ide, which is good for producing Mac double-clickables and also comes on a cd with a Windows version that I can run under Virtual PC and generate a .exe file.

I have also used NetBeans succesfully (also cross-platform and free, but I don't like its un-mac-like GUI) but not ProjectBuilder.

The academic version of full Metroworks CodeWarrior Pro is only about $100, which if you have any grant money at all is peanuts, especially as the commercial version is about six times the cost. I would recommend spending the money.
