Developing/Running Swing based applications on Mac OS X

Hello,

I work for the Software Development team of INVSEE a
web based project.(http:// invsee.asu.edu. ). We have
developed a bunch of applets to promote "Web based
learning". These Applets were primarily developed on
Windows.

However since a lot of Educators, Schools and Colleges
still use Mac we had to think about porting these
Applets to Mac as well.

Before Mac OS X was released this involved installing
an "MRJ plugin" and "configuring Mac for Swing". As
Mac OS X was released we thought that we may no longer
need to port the "Applets" to Mac.

Based on this background my questions are

1) Does an applet developed on Java 1.3 or lower on
Windows work "without any need for recompilation or
reconfiguring of the Mac."? I tried our Applets on a
Mac OS X, but unfortunately they do not work. They
give a "classnotfound" exception

2)Even though Mac OS X supports the Java 2 runtime, do
i still have to install the "MRJ plugin" to make
Swing based Applications work on Mac ?

If there is a need for reconfiguring the Mac OS X , i
would be grateful if you can list out the steps i need
to follow if i am to make "the Swing based Applets"
work on Mac OS X.

Thanks and regards
Prashanth
