Arg... The heap size fixed it. Yikes do I feel stupid. That little trash can
and info on IDEA's memory settings was hidden by the doc so I didn't notice
that it was all pegged out at the max. From the console I thought the
problem was the result of carbon because the out of memory was getting
thrown with a carbon mouse event - but other aspects of the program
including editing worked. The MacOS X installer set the heap to about 30
megs less than the windows version.
