Brushed metal?

Hey y'all,

Has anyone hacked together a pure Java graphics algorithm that fills a panel with Apple's brushed metal (iTunes/QuickTime) paint? I've found some multi-gradient fill examples on the web, but it would be nicer to replicate Apple's brushed metal appearance as much as possible (random streaks, centered overhead lighting, a smidgen of blur).

Right now I'm using a screen-captured image tiled in the background. Fairly decent but the lighting is a bit bogus due to the tiling - not always centered within the panel. Should I try grabbing a .rsrc file from somewhere and use that as a tile?

It would be nice if Apple would supply an Aqua paint and a brushed metal paint algorithm. If this is a copyright issue, then someone could develop "Almost Aqua" and "Almost Brushed Metal" paints (fill algorithms).

Any pointers greatly appreciated!
Craig
