There is an e-mail "Welcome again to the Java 1.4.1 Developer Preview" that is
sent out to people who download the preview. At the bottom of some routine
information is the news that you can sign up for a mailing list devoted to
discussion of the preview. This is important since discussion of the preview
is forbidden elsewhere, including here.

I didn't notice this important information when I looked over the e-mail
briefly. I deleted the e-mail because I decided not to install the preview
after reading comments that filtered onto this list despite the nondisclosure
agreement. But then I started getting e-mails from Apple asking me to check
if particular bugs I had submitted were fixed. I then fished the installation
files out of the trash and read the Readme files; however, these tell you
nothing about the special discussion group, mentioned only in the Welcome
e-mail.

Folks at Apple heard of my plight from on high and sent me another copy of the
e-mail. You can get another copy by downloading the Preview again, or perhaps
intervention from on high will reach you as well. Unfortunately the rest of
us with copies of the e-mail can't reveal the sign-up information for the
special discussion group since that information is covered by the
nondisclosure agreement.

I don't make the rules (though I try to follow them).
