One thing you might want to be aware of is that the drag and drop implementation at 1.1 included with the SDK mentioned by Greg Guerin was Apple's own. They seemed to consider a reasonably nice one but as far as I know no attempt was ever made to keep it going OS X. I am not familiar with either to say how much it is different from the java drag and drop API that appeared in 1.2 I think. 
But some if thats a consideration. 
Probably why it is restricted to the separate MRJ SDK distribution as well I'd imagine.
