interested because I just bought my first macintosh. It is a G3
with Mac OS X 9.1 installed no firewire. I know I will have to
update the OS to work with anything.

So if you're gonna update, you might as well get Tiger then and the
issue is resolved :-)

No, because Tiger will only install/run on Macs with FireWire ...
