Bug reports (especially those with a reproducible testcase!) should
be filed at http://bugreport.apple.com
The "Send to Apple" crashreporter reports do get to engineers
eventually, but they take a much longer and indirect path.
longer and more indirect? that would be impressive: being worse than
the usual long and indirect path!
as far as one can tell from outside Apple, all bugs just get thrown
into a black hole anyway. that doesn't exactly motivate me to care
about which submission method to use. submitting a bug report seems
to mean that i'll hear nothing for 18 months, at which point
something may or may not happen which may or may not make a positive
difference. which is probably true even if i don't submit a bug.
maybe the bugs i submitted that got fixed were also submitted by a
guy whose name began with 'X', and that was what it took. how would i
know?
when Apple have a searchable bug database like Sun's, with developer
comments, suggested work-arounds, and room for other developers to
describe their work-arounds, then i might be prepared to jump through
an extra hoop or two. until then, i'm only going to bother with VM
crashes, and i'm not going to go to much more effort than clicking
"Report..."; i can always use Linux or Solaris instead.
