Thanks! That wasn't the problem, but in playing with that idea I did finally find the real problem. My cvspserver file was

I am always surprised people are running cvspserver. Just enable SSH and you are save to connect remotely through SSH to the server with the cvs repository. It is more more more secure and easily to setup - compared to cvspserver.

Please consider switching to subversion too. I work now for about two months with subversion and I am very happy with it. Moving directories and files around and renaming them is as easy as with the finder :-)
