Assuming you're running 1.5; you could try getting some information about the JVM's memory handling:


Run your app and then run jconsole from Terminal:
> sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/ Commands/jconsole


In the MBeans pane there is detailed info on the JVM's memory handling under java.lang->Memory Pool, Garbage Collector and MemoryManager.

Take a look at Sun's article on jconsole for the terminology for memory spaces:

(A known-bug in jconsole prevents the memory pane from displaying anything panes other than MBeans :-( )

Jconsole's PC implementation does work as advertised. Perhaps you could run your app on a PC and see jconsole's output.
