I haven't paid close attention to this thread, so I don't know if your
laptop is an iBook or a PowerBook. I can tell you, however, that iBooks
appear to ship with lots of hardware problems and Apple seems to have
trouble fixing those problems. I bought an iBook over a year ago, and after
5 round trips for repairs, Apple gave me a new one (I had to pay for extra
RAM, since the extra RAM in the old one was not compatible with newer
models!) The new iBook *only* needed to be sent back once for repair, and
since than has been reliable. Still, I see occasional world-wide repair
programs announced by Apple for certain iBooks (so far, not mine.)
