That wasn't my experience--SpotLight would find java sources only by file name or other standard file metadata.

When I was exploring the possibility of creating a Spotlight plugin for my Java source files, I stumbled across /Library/Spotlight/SourceCode.mdimporter probably installed by xCode. I ran this command mentioned in MacOSXHints.com: mdimport -r /Library/Spotlight/ SourceCode.mdimporter and now all my Java sources are searchable with Spotlight. Pretty cool except It might of been fun to develop a Spotlight from scratch now I don't have to.
