There were a few add's without getContentPane. One of those mistakes that will build without any warnings but throw exceptions at runtime (still trying to figure out why they did that...)
I thought in Java 5 that an 'add' to a JFrame is automatically directed to the content pane. Am I wrong?
No, you are right, but you shouldnt be relying on that for your Mac targeting code for quite some time. Since Tiger didnt ship with Java 5 as the default JRE it will be a while before it is worth the support pain to assume that things like that work.
